Dear students,
The first contest to be run by Stufun.com is 'My Favourite Teacher'. All students are welcome to enter the contest.
I felt that everybody should know about my favourite teacher too. So the first entry is mine, although it will not compete for a prize. My favourite teacher is Mrs. Nancy D'souza. She taught me Social Studies when I was in the sixth standard (1972 - 73) and Geography when I was in the seventh standard (1973-74).
D'souza teacher was a very good teacher. She knew her subject well and explained it well too. I remember parts of Maratha history even today. Students in her class listened to her quietly because she explained so well. She had a great sense of humor too. I remember when she was teaching about Eskimos, I asked her, "Teacher, who is their prime minister?" She replied, "Don't worry Parwathy, we will make you their prime minister!" (I am still waiting!)
D'souza teacher was a students' teacher and was always ready to look from their angle too. If two girls had a fight, she settled it for them nicely. Neither girl felt cheated. But her best quality was she liked all her students - toppers, average and duffers. She had this attitude, -'You are my student and I am with you'.
I consider myself privileged to have been her student. However, I got an opportunity to tell the world about her after twenty-six years. But you students are lucky. You are getting an opportunity to express your feelings almost immediately, don't let go of it.
Thankyou and have fun,
Parwathy Akhileswaran
